I am incredibly proud to welcome you to Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera Bro Dur, a successful and prosperous Welsh-speaking community where all children and students are challenged and motivated to develop into first-class individuals. Our school is a 3-18 school on two sites: Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera is an all-age setting and sits at the top of the Swansea Valley, and Bro Dur is an 11-16 school based in Sandfields, Port Talbot. We are a happy and successful school where our dedicated and highly qualified staff, combined with very high levels of wellbeing provides an encouraging and ambitious education for every child.
Our moto ‘Dysgu Gorau Dysgu Byw’ (Best Learning Learn to Live) underpins everything we do. Our aim is to provide excellent education and experiences in order to prepare our children and young people for the next steps in life. We respect the traditional values of hard work, good manners and self-discipline, while preparing our student for their future lives in a continuously changing world.
Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera Bro Dur is a place of learning where students feel safe and enjoy their educational journey. Innovative Teaching and Learning is at the heart of everything we do both in and outside the classroom and with so many opportunities available, we trust that your child will grow and thrive here with us. The school has an enviable reputation and tradition for excellence in sport, music, drama, charity work and the promotion of Welsh culture. We encourage all pupils to take advantage of these opportunities to enhance their development as healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Since 2015 the school has benefitted from a £32million investment. Bro Dur is a brand-new, purpose-built site with a wide range of outstanding facilities; Ystalyfera has a wonderful new Primary phase building, and two new teaching blocks which include extensive Science and Technology suites, four ICT labs a Performing Arts suite and a 350 seat Theatre with a Shigeru Kawai grand piano. The sporting facilities are excellent throughout including Sports Halls, outdoor pitches, 2G pitches, MUGA’s and fitness suites.
As a Welsh medium school, we firmly believe that we can provide the best possible foundations for the children and young people of Wales, by giving them two valuable and necessary languages, rich and varied concepts and vocabulary, and diverse and engaging opportunities. Join us therefore, on a journey to Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera Bro Dur – we are keen to work closely with you to support and encourage your child to realise and achieve their aspirations and expand their horizons.
Yours sincerely,
Laurel Davies

We work hard to provide a smooth transition for pupils not only between our own campuses, but also as pupils join us from our Cluster primary schools, with whom we have a strong working partnership.Rydym yn gweithio'n galed i bontio'n esmwyth i ddisgyblion nid yn unig rhwng ein campysau ein hunain, ond hefyd wrth i ddisgyblion ymuno â ni o'n hysgolion cynradd Clwstwr, y mae gennym bartneriaeth waith gref â nhw.
