Our vision for Teaching & Learning
We are a pioneering 3-18 school on two sites, which delivers Welsh medium education of the highest quality; our mission is to develop a community where everyone has a passion for learning.
Our 3 – 18 all-age school status at Ystalyfera offers us exciting and innovative learning opportunities where primary aged children learn with specialist secondary colleagues and secondary pupils work alongside and support our younger pupils. We are keen to exploit these opportunities wherever we can in order to create a seamless transition along the learning continuum.
As an 11-16 campus at Bro Dur, we pride ourselves on our sector leading teaching and learning approaches where researched based practice keeps our teaching vibrant, engaging and up to date and supports our aim of improving outcomes for our learners.
With the child at its centre, our aspiration is for all pupils to achieve and grow as learners, and to generate their own course for lifelong learning. Pupils will be empowered to take ownership of their learning, to make purposeful contributions to their learning environments, and to tackle issues arising in the world around them.
Outstanding ‘teaching and learning’ is not something that schools fall on by chance; a school needs to aspire to develop this key strand so that every pupil is provided with the best life chances. We believe in challenge, engagement and deep learning (mastery). This is promoted through careful planning, clear learning intentions and responsive teaching.
