Vision

The Cynnydd Team's vision is to ensure that our pupils receive the emotional support they need to develop life skills and endurance. The work of the Progress Team has been vitally important since we responded to the challenges our learners have faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The team uses a variety of strategies tailored to the needs of the individual to ensure that all our learners are in a position to reach their full potential.

Staff

Mr Tomos Griffiths is our Cynnydd Officer at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Dur and since joining the school in September 2019 many learners have benefited greatly from the emotional and academic support offered by Mr Griffiths' and the provision offered. Mr Griffiths works from our Dic Penderyn classroom and Mr Griffiths works in a variety of ways: 1: 1 work with pupils, helping and School work, discussing emotions, working with the primary and the Year 6/7 transition process in school or working with Mental Health agencies. He also works with external partners on projects such as Forest Schools, Swans, Margam Park, Rewise, Call of the Wild etc.

Weekly, Mrs Sara Jones, Ystalyfera-Bro Dur Mental Health and Well-being Coordinator runs workshops with pupils from Bro Dur. We are delighted to benefit from Mrs Jones' expertise in this area as she supports our learners in talking and sharing problems and offering guidance, working together on the transition process as well as integrating some pupils back to school following the Pandemic.

We are delighted to welcome Miss Rachel Morgan to join the Cynnydd Team on a part-time basis. Miss Morgan works with the school's younger pupils focusing on developing confidence and endurance through the use of a variety of different interventions including academic support and through arts and crafts.

Miss Bobbie Rees is our Careers Advisor. Miss Rees is available for face-to-face meetings with students at the school, even after leaving if they would like guidance on their next steps. Appointments are available directly with Miss Rees.

The Cynnydd Team works very closely with the school's Child Protection Officer and external agencies such as the County Welfare Team and Social Services to ensure the best possible care for our pupils so that our learners and their families get the support they need within the school's circumstances.

Llwyddo / SWEET

The SWEET qualification is an innovative and interesting programme. We provide the SWEET Personal Growth and Wellbeing (PGW) resource, which supports the delivery of BTEC Levels 1 and 2 in Personal Growth and Wellbeing. The qualification also aims to provide a menu of additional qualifications including Level 1 Food Hygiene, Agored Cymru Qualifications, as well as teaching valuable skills to help students live happier, healthier and more successful lives. It creates interesting conversations around the big issues of life, and helps learners to gain a better knowledge of themselves and the world around them.

Intervention Projects

The department aims to create bespoke packages to support the individual needs of our pupils. We also work closely with external agencies to provide extra-curricular activities that add value to the educational experience of our pupils here at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Dur.
