Bro Dur pupil voice heard at county and national level

Neath Port Talbot Council has inaugurated Maddie-Pritchard as the new Deputy Youth Mayor at a ceremony held online. The annual ceremony took place on Thursday 3rd February and was attended by senior council officers and key community leaders which included Councillor Ted Latham (Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council), Karen Jones (Chief Executive of Neath Port Talbot Council) Sally Holland (The Children’s Commissioner for Wales), Louise Fleet (Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan), Joanna Jenkins (High Sheriff of West Glamorgan), and David Rees MS (Member of the Senedd for Aberavon). Maddie, a year 11 pupil here at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Dur, spoke about her passion for the Welsh language and pledged to support Welsh Government’s aim to reach 1 million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Meagan Griffiths, also of year 11, has been voted in by NPT Youth Council to become a member of the British Youth Parliament.  Meagan had 100% of the votes after an exceptional speech to the Youth Council.  Meagan will be registered as a MYP and will  attending meetings monthly with the organisation Children in Wales where she will represent the young people of Neath Port Talbot.  There are Members of the British Youth Parliament who attend from all over Wales and we are proud to have Meagan represent the young people of Neath Port Talbot.
